Set up payments

Connect Stripe so you can actually be paid.

Why this matters

This is the one worth doing before you need it. Every money feature — invoices, deposits, payment plans, instant book — ends at a Stripe account. Without one, you can build an invoice and send it, and your client cannot pay it.

Money goes from your client to your Stripe account and out to your bank. It does not pass through us.

Do this

  1. Open Settings → payments
Home → Set up payments goes there.
  2. Click Connect Stripe
You will be handed to Stripe. If you already have a Stripe account you can sign in and reuse it — you do not need a second one.
  3. Finish everything Stripe asks for
Business details, identity, and the bank account you want paying out to. This is Stripe's process and Stripe's rules, not ours — their guides are below.
  4. Come back and check the status
It should say payments are enabled. Do not stop before this. An account that exists but is not verified cannot take a payment, and looks identical to a finished one from your side.

Their guides, not ours

These are run by the company in question and are the ones to trust if a screen looks different from what we describe.

You’ll know it worked when

Settings reports that charges are enabled — not merely “connected”. The Home step tests the same thing, which is why it can still be open after you have been through Stripe once.

If it doesn’t go to plan

Stuck as connected-but-not-enabled almost always means Stripe is still waiting on a document from you. Stripe emails you about it, and their dashboard shows what is outstanding — we cannot see the detail of it from here.
